Sanders: Trump attacking San Juan mayor is 'unspeakable'

Donald Trump

He has pledged to spare no effort to help Puerto Rico recover from Maria's aftermath, and tweeted that military personnel and first responders have done "an incredible job", despite having "no electric, roads, phones etc".

Washington D.C. [United States], Oct.1: United States President Donald Trump on Sunday hailed his administration for doing a "great job" in "almost impossible situation" in Puerto Rico while combating Hurricane Maria.

"I know there are Trump voters who are not okay with him treating Puerto Rico this way (here's the mayor he's attacking)", Journalist Mark Harris wrote of Cruz's actions in a tweet Saturday.

Trump's tweets in response - in which he criticised Cruz for "poor leadership" and added, speaking of the people of Puerto Rico, "They want everything to be done for them" - sent celebrities scrambling to register their disgust.

Trump's criticism of Cruz and of Puerto Ricans' efforts drew sharp retorts from mainland politicians, even from within his own Republican Party.

It's not clear what, exactly, caused Trump to lash out against Cr Cruz, who has issued increasingly desperate pleas for help as her island of 3.4 million people struggles to obtain clean water, fuel, electricity and other basic supplies.

President Trump blasted the increasingly critical mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Saturday for "poor leadership ability" in not being able to "get their workers to help" in hurricane relief, saying the federal government is doing a "fantastic job".

"A natural disaster that's become a humanitarian disaster is no time for politics or grievances", said USCM Vice President Mayor Steve Benjamin (Columbia, SC).

Facebook CEO apologises for dividing people
The discovery of the ads came after months of denial by Zuckerberg that Facebook played any role in influencing U.S. voters. Last week, Warner said that Facebook's disclosure about ad buys tied to Russian Federation was insufficient.

It also doesn't help that Trump appears convinced that everything is going just fine over in Puerto Rico based on nothing. Though the likes of Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Evans, and John Legend all tweeted their disgust, the most passionate response of all came from Miranda, whose parents are from Puerto Rico.

"[Cruz] has been working 24/7".

Fellow mayors have said Cruz has not been attending meetings with federal agencies, to include FEMA and the head of the agency has more or less confirmed as much.

Outside of the Fake News or politically motivated ingrates, " the president wrote.

Trump's comments were not received well by the American composer, lyricist, playwright and actor, who has been active in his efforts to try to help the hurricane-ravaged island, CNN reported. This is the time to show our "true colors".

"We are dying here, and I can not fathom the thought that the greatest nation in the world can not figure out logistics for a small island of 100 miles by 35 miles".

She also said she would meet with Trump if he asked her to when he visits the island on Tuesday.
